A Democrat Just Filed Impeachment Articles Against Pete Hegseth
Rep. Yassamin Ansari has filed articles of impeachment against Pete Hegseth for "repeatedly violating his oath of office" and "reckless endangerment of U.S. service members." The impeachment won't pass — Democrats lack the votes in both chambers, and removing a Cabinet secretary requires a two-thirds Senate vote. But the real threat to Hegseth's tenure isn't Congress. Trump fired Attorney General Bondi and DHS Secretary Noem this year, and The Independent reported he is "privately tiring" of his defense secretary. A retired Army Lieutenant Colonel wrote that "vectors of displeasure" from Pentagon staff, NATO, and the Senate have formed around Hegseth, predicting he "will not be the secretary of defense much longer." Trump went through four defense secretaries in his first term — Mattis resigned, three acting secretaries followed, and Esper was fired after the 2020 election.
