This report, compiled by Survival International for the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD), relevant United Nations Special Rapporteurs and other relevant UN officials, documents the situation facing the Indigenous Shompen people of Great Nicobar Island, India, whose existence is threatened by a huge industrial project planned by the Indian government, which aims to transform the Shompen’s small island into the “Hong Kong of India.” Survival is extremely concerned about the fate of the Shompen.
